Not necessarily. While the organic production model for extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), which avoids pesticides, may be considered more "sustainable" than conventional methods, it is not the only one that respects the environment.

Any management practice that improves the structural and nutritional quality of the soil, reduces dependency on external chemical inputs, promotes biodiversity and landscape quality of the agroecosystem, or uses technologies that lower energy consumption and waste production, contributes to a sustainable production model.

Ultimately, these actions ensure the medium- and long-term profitability of the olive grove, because extra virgin olive oil is not only good for our health… it's also good for the planet!
