Can Calopa, an estate located on the hills of Collserola overlooking Barcelona, gave its name to this organic extra virgin olive oil—one of the very few so-called “urban” olive oils in Europe.

In fact, the city of Barcelona entrusted the team of L’Olivera with the restoration of the estate’s olive grove, where two local varieties are cultivated: the well-known Arbequina and the more confidential Becaruda.

Becaruda is a native yet rare olive variety from Catalonia, deeply connected to the landscapes of the Vallès region, near Barcelona. It is traditionally grown around Ullastrell, on often centenary olive trees whose production is naturally very limited.

Long overshadowed by more productive varieties, Becaruda is now experiencing a true revival, driven by a growing interest in terroirs, local cultivars, and artisanal olive oils. Its extra virgin olive oil stands out for its rustic, assertive character, a fine aromatic intensity, and a gentle yet sincere bitterness.

Designed primarily for raw consumption, it fully expresses itself on bread, vegetables, or simple salads. Rare and demanding, Becaruda embodies a living heritage and brings depth and personality when blended with more delicate varieties such as Arbequina.
